This is a quartet for four harps. The harp (in my mind) has a special association with the music of Debussy (which I adore), and Debussy has a close association with the paintings of the Impressionists, Monet especially. The three drawings are studies for each of the three movements of the piece, each being closely aligned with the tripartite processes that Monet employed during the completion of his last great series of paintings; the waterlily series.
