May 7th, 2008.   PSAPPHA PORTRAITS.
Commissioned by the distinguished Manchester-based contemporary music ensemble, Psappha, under the direction of Nicholas Kok, at the Elvet Methodist Church at 7.30pm as part of the Musicon Concert Series, in association with Durham University’s Centre for Contemporary Music..  This is a work for 7 instruments and is based on ‘sonic’ portraits of 7 major painters who have inspired Cowie’s own work over the years.  It includes movements connected with Rothko, Riley, Kandinsky, Pollock and of his wife, Heather Cowie.  This work has been recorded in a live web-cast and will be available for download in April from www.psappha.com or www.lancasterconcerts.co.uk

CD RELEASE.  Edward Cowie: 24 Preludes for Solo Piano.
This extraordinary set of piano pieces has just been recorded by the pianist Philip Mead, and is due for release in the early Spring.  It is to be released on UHR label.  The preludes have already been played world-wide by several international pianists.  They have been hailed, by Piano Magazine as ‘a brilliant and long awaited successor to the great set of preludes of Claude Debussy’.
