The Ambassador for birds in Britain, His Excellency W.I.S.E. Owl, has decided that ‘hoomans’ need educating in the way of bird life and the most obvious, and best way of doing so is to let every bird tell their own story in their own words.

He chooses the author, well known composer and painter Edward Cowie, to undertake this task.  With the aid of a magical ‘birdogram’ Edward the ‘hooman’ is able to translate ‘Birdish’ into English and thus invites you into the private lives of 24 common British birds.

BIRDS TALK  by  Edward Cowie
Foreword by Bill Oddie
This book is crammed with scientific information, yet never fails to entertain and draw-in its reader in a constant stream of humorous and beguiling ‘adventures’.  Although aimed at children, Birds Talk is excellent entertainment value for nature-lovers of all ages.
Review by Verity Edwards (Devon Life)

Devon composer and painter Edward Cowie’s first book is not only a courageous exploration of the world of nature writing, but also aims to entertain the most critical of audiences: children. He bravely challenges the champion of ornithology, Bill Oddie, with a wonderful narrative style and a concept irresistible to children of all ages : he writes of his experiences with the Birdograph, a fantastical contraption which allows birds to talk ‘hooman’.  A wide range of British birds are ‘interviewed’ in an attempt to educate the human race.  The unobtrusiveness of its ornithological content is what makes this book work.  Children who shy from educational publications will embrace Birds Talk with open arms and absorb its cunningly concealed wealth of information effortlessly.  The words are a parent’s delight.
